Christchurch is still recovering from the earthquake disasters of 2010 and 2011. We drove through the city centre and past baron areas of rubble where unsafe buildings have been demolished. It was a sad and somber experience. Many historical buildings were destroyed and are still being rebuilt.
Around teatime we had a lovely walk around the botanical gardens located in one of the city’s parks, a popular area for locals and visitors. Indeed Christchurch is known as New Zealand’s garden city as it has an impressive total of 740 parks. The evening sun gave the trees, ponds and flowers a warm glow.
