We started our drive to spend the day exploring the southeast peninsula of St Kitts at about 9.45 am and stopped again at Timothy Hill viewpoint. This thin hilly slither of land divides the Atlantic Ocean on left of the above photo and the Caribbean Sea on the right.

Within a couple of minutes we called into Carambola Restaurant for coffee. We were welcomed in and sat inside but just in front of a large open space facing the sparkling Caribbean Sea.
When we arrived the car park and place were fairly empty but soon a stream of tourists began to appear. I think they had come from a cruise ship where I believe a day pass can be obtained to enjoy the beach front facilities of Carambola.

Following coffee and a quick look at the rapidly filling up beach we got back in the car and continued driving south.

We pulled in at St Christophe Marina not really sure what to expect. The marina was quiet with very few boats but was another scenic spot. There was a few low key shops some of which were not open. We understand this to be a marina which caters for super yachts and probably more so in high season.

From Christophe Marina we drove further towards the tip of the peninsula and having had a just a small snack earlier for breakfast we decided to look for somewhere for an early lunch. We stopped at Cockleshell Bay which had a couple of beach bars however as we were next to the Park Hyatt hotel we decided to call in there.

Park Hyatt St Kitts is a luxury 5 star hotel and even as outside guests we got 5 star treatment. At the cool and contemporary reception we were invited to take a (comfy) seat and were given an eco friendly carton of chilled water each while a welcoming member of the concierge made a lunch reservation in their Great House restaurant.

He then arranged for a golf cart to take us through the resort where we were met, asked if we preferred to sit inside or outside before being shown to a gorgeous outside table to be seated.

Conch chowder is a popular St Kitts dish and I had the pleasure of enjoying this delightful creamy soup made with garlic and finely chopped vegetables. We also shared a salad and Chris had pizza.

Throughout lunch we were kept topped up with chilled beer (Chris) and chilled Chardonnay (me) and more cool and refreshing water.

After lunch we took our time as we wandered back through the resort.

It is possible for non-resident guests to book a day pass for this lovely resort and packages can be found on their website.

Next it was time for a cooling dip in the sea at the fabulous Cockleshell Bay which was next to Banana Bay. The water was clear and inviting and at 29 degrees it felt like a bath.

The other end of Cockleshell Beach is Reggae Beach which is popular with cruise passengers who hire a taxi to take them there for the day.

We drove along to Turtle Beach for our final stop but it was rough and ready and with nowhere much to park it was not really worth visiting in our view.

But we did see some pelicans!

Summary
Another wonderful day doing our favourite thing of driving somewhere new, stopping in a few interesting and different places and having a wonderful lunch in a gorgeous setting!
This completes our coverage of St Kitts and next up are three posts on Nevis where we stayed for the second half of our trip.
